Pixel Quilts
Thanks to other crafters on Pinterest who work with character quilts and pearler beads, I started to create pixelated quilts that are constructed of 1" x 1" squares of cotton fabric. I use Microsoft excel to design the patterns, which makes it easy to calculate the massive quantity of tiny squares I need to cut for each color/fabric that I use in my blanket designs.
These pixel quilts are my most satisfying creations thus far because the finished product is always AMAZING. It's like I'm creating a giant, machine-washable puzzle from start to finish. It takes quite a bit of time to cut and machine-stitch each section (~2 months for twin-sized quilts and ~4 months for queen-sized quilts), but it's well worth it because I am left with a wonderful sense of accomplishment, and the recipient is always surprised and delighted.

Jacob's Minecraft quilt
I created this quilt as a birthday present for my husband's 8-year old bestest buddy/godson, who is REALLY into Minecraft. The components are key characters and features of the Minecraft world. I used Pearler bead patterns found on Pinterest to recreate some of the Minecraft characters like Creeper, Sheep, Cow, Steve and the diamond pick axe. Then I referenced the Minecraft website to design the patterns for the other characters. The excel file here outlines the measurements, quantity and and color of each square needed to make the center of the blanket.

Honey'sSuper Mario Brothers quilt
I created this quilt (with the inspiration of patterns posted by fellow Pinteresters) as a Christmas gift for my husband, who likes old-school video games. I managed to keep this a secret for 4 months, even though I was working at our kitchen table the whole time. (I hid each character section as they were completed, and it is not easy to discern the final pattern when all that is visible is an individual line of different-colored pixels.)
